Originally published in 1947 in German, this work aimed to assist both students encountering quantum mechanics for the first time and experimental scientists unfamiliar with its applications. While many excellent texts have since emerged to explain the theoretical framework, the practical aspects have been somewhat overlooked, aside from numerous specialized monographs on narrow topics. This gap indicates a need for a comprehensive introduction to the practical use of quantum mechanics. The author, responding to the publishers' request, has updated the earlier German editions to enhance their utility for the global community of science students and researchers by producing a new English edition. Recognizing the necessity for significant expansion, the author has incorporated new approximation methods and advancements, particularly in scattering. Additionally, the updated work includes discussions on relativistic quantum mechanics and offers insights into radiation theory as an example of wave field quantization. This revised edition aims to provide a more complete resource for those seeking to apply quantum mechanics in practical scenarios.
