The English chemist and physicist Michael Faraday (1791-1867) was one of the most brilliant experimental scientists of all times. He is known for discovering the dynamo, the transformer and the direct current motor. His various inventions were the basis for all of the electronic technology that has developed since the 19th century. During the first years of his scientific work, Faraday was mainly concentrated on chemical problems – he succeeded in discovering two new chlorides of carbon and in liquefying chlorine and other gases. His numerous experiments in chemical work he described in “Experimental Researches in Chemistry and Physics”.
