The 30th Council of Europe Art Exhibition explores the theme of freedom in Europe since 1945. It poses critical questions about our desired way of living, the roles of politics, the state, and society in enabling us to lead fulfilling lives, and whether the pursuit of a socially and ecologically secure future is a fundamental human right. Featuring works from 113 artists across 28 European countries, the exhibition transcends historical divisions to showcase a diverse array of perspectives on freedom. It traces the shared roots of democracy and socialism in Enlightenment ideals, particularly Freedom, Equality, and Human Rights. Organized into 12 thematic sections, or 'chapters,' addressing concepts like Reason, Utopia, Consumerism, Force, Sustainability, and Self-Knowledge, it prompts reflection on societal living. Notable artists challenge viewers to contemplate their own life choices and the broader implications of freedom in contemporary society.
