The historical novel is set at the time of the Seven Years' War between the French and the English for supremacy in North America, in which Indian allies on both sides join in the battle. The story begins with the massacre of the British garrison of Fort William Henry in 1757. Natty Bumppo together with the Mohawk Uncas tries to free abducted daughters of the English commander Munro from the hands of the Horons. An exciting fight for the two abducted women begins... Over 20 footnotes provide information about historical circumstances.
