More about the book

The legendary 1903 car and motorcycle race, Paris-Madrid, known as the "race to the death." A total of 238 vehicles were in this last city-to-city race. In Bordeaux, it had to be already broken off, because tragic accidents on the unsecured route claimed many lives. Authorities banned, not only the race, but also the return of vehicles to Paris on their own - as they had to be loaded on train and transported by rail. This book, by Michael Ulrich, already released in 2005 under the title "The Race Bugatti Missed" in English, with German booklet, is still the only book on the subject. The edition was a huge success and sold out quickly. The present volume focuses solely on the race, the participants and the then-technology vehicles and timekeeping. This completely revised and newly designed book also significantly expands, by the brother of the late author, with numerous illustrations and detailed information on selected racers.
