More about the book

Molière, born Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, emerged from a prosperous Parisian family but chose the stage over a stable career in royal service. He co-founded the Illustre Théâtre, which faced bankruptcy, leading him to tour provincial theaters for over a decade. His return to Paris culminated in performances before the King, where he became renowned for his sharp critiques of society and the church through iconic works like "Tartuffe" and "The Misanthrope." His life ended dramatically on stage, collapsing during a performance of "The Imaginary Invalid," ultimately leading to his death in 1673.
