More about the book
The life and works of Michael Drayton, a prominent English poet born in 1563, reveal a complex career marked by early struggles and later acclaim. His initial spiritual poems faced censorship, but he gained recognition with his pastoral collection and historical epics. Although he collaborated with notable playwrights, only one of his plays survives. Drayton's relationship with the royal court shifted with the accession of James I, leading to a decline in favor. His later works include the ambitious Poly-Olbion and acclaimed pieces like Nimphidia. He was buried in Westminster Abbey, honored posthumously by Ben Jonson.
