A prominent figure in the Romantic movement, Robert Southey was a member of the Lake Poets and a vocal critic of the slave trade. His notable works include "Inchcape Rock" and the children's classic "The Story of the Three Bears." Southey's life intertwined with that of his friend Samuel Taylor Coleridge, with whom he briefly planned a utopian society. As Poet Laureate for 30 years, he also excelled in biography and literary scholarship, translating significant works and documenting historical events. He married twice, ultimately passing away in 1843.
