More about the book
The narrative follows Matthew Flinders during his extensive 1801 expedition to survey the coast of New Holland, which lasted over a decade. While he didn't originate the term 'Australia', he played a crucial role in promoting its use. His detailed surveys included observations on diverse aspects of shipboard life, local flora and fauna, and the customs of indigenous peoples. Volume 2 covers the latter part of his Australian survey, his lengthy imprisonment in Mauritius by the French, and his eventual return to England.
