The narrative follows George Locke Howe, a Rhode Island native who enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve Force during World War I. His journey begins in September 1917 at Newport and takes him overseas to Queenstown, Ireland, in 1918. He also serves in Liverpool, Brest, and aboard the U.S.S. Plattsburg, culminating in his return to the United States in 1919, where he is discharged in May. The account highlights his military experiences and contributions during a pivotal time in history.
