The narrative follows George Locke Howe, a Bristol, Rhode Island native, who enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve Force during World War I. Starting his service as a Hospital Apprentice in September 1917, he was stationed in Newport before being deployed to Queenstown, Ireland, in 1918. His journey included service in Liverpool, Brest, and aboard the U.S.S. Plattsburg, culminating in his return to the U.S. in 1919, where he was discharged in May.
