More about the book
Set against the backdrop of the Moree race riots, the story follows an ensemble of actors preparing to rehearse a play about the tragic events surrounding the death of young Aboriginal Cheeky McIntosh in 1982. As they explore Endeavour Lane, they encounter Daddy, a local elder who claims to be waiting for a bus to a murder trial. His presence challenges the group’s understanding of their project, intertwining past and present while prompting reflections on historical injustices, including the Myall Creek Massacre of 1838.
