A prominent figure in modernist poetry, Robert Laurence Binyon was born to Quaker parents and educated at Trinity College, Oxford. His notable contributions include the poignant poem "For the Fallen," which memorialized the losses of World War I. Binyon also played a crucial role in introducing imagist poets to East Asian art. His career at The British Museum focused on art literature, culminating in works on William Blake and translations of Dante's "Divine Comedy." He continued to write until his death in 1943.
