Gregory Caccialupi sums up his long life. The earliest memories date back to the thirties and are related to Polesine, Italy, the land of his childhood marked by poverty, illness, fatigue. As a teenager he decided to leave his country and go to America to seek his fortune. Enterprising and charming, he becomes a rich and successful man. A series of women try in vain to win his heart: Florencia, his first love, Nostalgia, his wife, and Erminia, his latest passion. Meanwhile, he has become Mr. Gregory: rich owner of a chain of large Italian hotels, and an influential person. Until one day, due to a bad investment, he loses all his assets.
