Margaret Marshall Saunders was a Canadian author most famously known for her novel "Beautiful Joe." This story, narrated from the perspective of a dog who endured a difficult puppyhood and a cruel owner, was the first Canadian book to sell a million copies. Saunders also penned over twenty other works, many of which offered social commentary on issues such as the abolition of child labor and the improvement of playground facilities. Through her writing, she aimed to highlight societal problems and advocate for better lives for the vulnerable.
