Thomas Müntzer
January 1, 1489 – May 27, 1525
Thomas Müntzer was a theologian and preacher of the early Reformation whose radical theology positioned him in opposition to both Luther and the established Catholic Church. He believed the end of the world was imminent and that true believers had a divine task to usher in a new historical era, leading him to openly defy feudal authority. Müntzer became a leader of the 1525 German peasant uprising, and his contributions to Reformation liturgy and biblical exegesis, though substantial, remain undervalued. His complex figure continues to spark controversy and is recognized as a significant revolutionary voice in European history.
