Na podzim 1977, po událostech „roku Charty“, Václav Havel sepsal reportáž o prvních hodinách Prohlášení Charty 77, vyšetřování a čtyřměsíční vazbě, kterou na něj uvalil komunistický režim. Po propuštění následovalo mučivé sebezpytování. Havel zmínil, že text někde ukryl a „už dávno nevím, kde je. Třeba ji někdy najdu“. Ačkoli reportáž během jeho života nenalezl, objevila se v pozůstalosti jeho přítele Zdeňka Urbánka a byla nalezena jeho vnukem Davidem Duškem. Text, který je fragmentární, zrekonstruovala Knihovna Václava Havla. V původní osnově, součásti rukopisného nálezu, Havel plánoval doprovodné eseje od jiných autorů. Vydávaný soubor tak obsahuje eseje Anny Freimanové, Petra Blažka, Davida Duška a Michaela Žantovského, který je editorem. Freimanová zkoumá divadelní souvislosti Havelova textu a jeho inspiraci faustovským Pokoušením. Blažek odpovídá na otázku o vyšetřovatelích, kteří se Havelovi v roce 1977 věnovali. Dušek přispívá osobní vzpomínkou na začátky Charty z pohledu osmiletého dítěte. Žantovský se zaměřuje na Havlovy morální dilemata a snahu o jejich řešení.

Kolekce fotografií Václava Havla začala vznikat na přelomu let 2011 a 2012 bezprostředně po jeho pohřbu. Prvotním záměrem byla výstava věnovaná období Havlova veřejného působení i soukromého života, včetně 13 let v prezidentském úřadu, jak jej zachytili fotoreportéři ČTK v letech 1988 až 2011. Tým autorů při jejím sestavování prohlédl kolem 14.000 fotografií v archivu ČTK. Finální výběr stovky velkoformátových snímků byl pak poprvé k vidění na Staroměstské radnici v Praze, kde ČTK v červnu a červenci 2012 uspořádala výstavu nazvanou Prezident.
