Kathy Triplett
Kathy Triplett draws inspiration from architectural geometry, from ancient civilizations to Art Deco, and organic forms influenced by her travels in Spain and Africa. Her work also reflects the colors and textures of West Africa, the warm surfaces of Italian terra sigillata, and natural shapes found along the South Carolina coast, such as horseshoe crabs and shark teeth. Triplett explores layers in her ceramics as metaphors for the layers of the self, and experiments with textures and glazes to achieve unique surfaces. Her art, now employing handbuilding techniques, features windows and openings that invite the viewer to explore.
