Here are the details of maps for Liverpool Liverpool Sheet 19 Liverpool (Vauxhall) 1864 - published 2007; intro by Kay Parrott. ISBN.978-1-84784-070-7 This very detailed map covers the area of Liverpool around Vauxhall Road and Scotland Road. These roads run north-south through the map, as does Marybone to Bevington Hill. Features include part of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, with New Basin and Timber Quay Basin; Glass Bottle Manufactory; Scotland Place; Bevington Bush Baths; St Martin's Market. For the most part this is a map of cramped houses, most of them back-to-back, with small, often noxious industries. Few public buildings are shown and author Kay Parrott says that the area has "fortunately changed out of all recognition". Many tiny courts are also shown, many of them named. A fascinating map for anyone interested in the living conditions of Liverpool's inner city in the mid 19th century. Street directories for Leeds Street, Marybone, Naylor Street, Richmond Row and Scotland Road are included on the reverse. The map links up with Liverpool Sheets 18 Gt Howard St to the west, 20 Liverpool Shaw St to the east, and 24 Dale Street to the south.
These maps are invaluable for historians and genealogists. More than 2,100 titles have been issued in this major series of reprints of Old Ordnance Survey Maps of towns throughout Britain and Ireland. Most of the maps are highly detailed, taken from the 1/2500 plans and reprinted at about 14 inches to the mile. They cover towns in great detail, showing individual houses, railway tracks, factories, churches, mills, canals, tramways and even minutiae such as dockside cranes, fountains, signal posts, pathways, sheds, wells, etc.. Each map includes historical notes on the area concerned.
