      Global Perspectives on Lutheran Identities

      • 288 pages
      • 11 hours of reading

At the end of 2019, The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) hosted a global consultation on contemporary Lutheran identities. The consultation in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, aimed to listen for the ways to sound the common notes of Lutheran identity among the rich harmony of lived, contextual identities across the Lutheran communion. The LWF engaged member churches and theologians in theological reflection on the work of the Holy Spirit under the theme, We Believe in the Holy Spirit: Global Perspectives on Lutheran Identities, which will be the title of the upcoming publication in the LWF Documentation series. This volume is a compilation of essays presented at the consultation. It is commended to churches, theological institutions, pastors and lay members across the LWF communion, who want to explore the trinitarian grounding of the Lutheran tradition, and the baptismal vocation to participate in God's mission.

    • Wir glauben an den Heiligen Geist

      Globale Perspektiven lutherischer Identität

Today the concept of "identity" is contested against the backdrop of myriad forms of social, political, economic and ecological exclusion. How is identity expressed in a global Lutheran tradition whose members share common biblical, liturgical, confessional, theological and spiritual foundations, yet represent diverse cultures and traditions? At the end of 2019, the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) hosted a global consultation on contemporary Lutheran identities, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The result is the papers presented in this publication. The authors - church leaders, young Christians, theologians, lay and ordained practitioners in local communities - explore the Spirit's work to revive and equip the faithful for vocation through the ministry of the church today and into the future of the Lutheran communion.
