Life on the edge of Europe's last primeval forest has profoundly shaped his work, evident in the cast of characters he's brought to life, including the young bison Pompik, the adult bison Żorż, the wolf Ambaras, the otter Salwinka, and the tiny shrew Dobrzyk.
