A little knowledge can be dangerous, but knowing the full truth might be fatal. Druadaen, an Outrider for the once-mighty Dunarran Consentium, has uncovered irreconcilable contradictions between magic and physics on Arrdanc. For this significant discovery, made at great personal risk, he is met with exile, enforced by anxious temple hierarchs. Undeterred, Druadaen seeks "the truth of the world," a quest urged by ancient beings, which may require him to journey beyond Arrdanc. The enigmatic Lady of the Mirror suggests he might find answers through her ethereal portal, the "shimmer." However, this portal permits only one traveler, forcing Druadaen to leave his companions behind. Once he crosses over, they learn the shimmer allows departure from Arrdanc but not return. Led by the steadfast swordsman Ahearn, Druadaen's friends embark on a perilous quest to rescue him and uncover the world's truth. Yet, as they draw closer to a solution, it becomes clear that powerful forces on Arrdanc are determined to thwart their efforts, willing to kill to ensure Druadaen never returns.
