Elias Ashmole Book order
Elias Ashmole was an English antiquary with a Baconian bent for the study of nature. His extensive library and collections reflected a wide range of interests, from history and law to alchemy and botany. Though a founding member of the Royal Society, key to the development of experimental science, his pursuits were as much antiquarian and mystical as they were scientific. He bequeathed his vast collections and library to the University of Oxford, establishing the Ashmolean Museum.
