Exploring themes of democracy and the American experience, this collection features thirteen stories that blend futuristic visions with contemporary reflections. I based my book Innocence on the Partition of India in 1947. Innocence follows Shukumar, the male protagonist. He grew up in a repressed society like India, in which open sexuality is taboo and kept hidden. However, in Western culture, it is accepted and embraced as a natural human characteristic. So, when he settled in Europe, coming into contact with open sexual expression had a dramatic impact. This gave the illusion of sexual freedom and gratification that led to social decadence and 'Hell'. Shukumar plunges himself into the inferno to taste Hell and encounters death but survives. Kakoli-the female protagonist who was gang raped by the Moslem goondas during riots and dumped into a ditch escaped death. The author talks about the human animalistic passion for killing and thirst for blood that has stained the psyche of humanity. Shukumar and Kakoli struggled to survive and beat all the odds stacked against them. They turned their misfortune into a powerful guiding spirit that created a new beginning filled with hope. This new beginning was filled with a belief that humanity can overcome all the tragedies and sufferings that came into their lives. Their story is a tale of innocence!

Fifty-one poems included in this collection describe the authors internal and external sentiments and the journey of exploring human behavior and its unique presence onthis planet. Human life is filled with various phases where love, passion, suffering, rejection, acceptance, pathos,and pleasure intertwine in a homogenous fluidity that is the essence of human existence. To understand and cherish human quality will allow us to value the human life with dignity that needs to be preserved and celebrated throughout the humanity. Born in Bangladesh, Shukdeb Sen lived for a while in India before emigrating to the USA, where he enjoyed a long and successful career in teaching, research, and mentoring undergraduate students at several colleges and universities in the southern states. During his career in education he published many research articles in scientific journals and published his first non-fiction book Black Education in White America in 2018. Flower Still Blooms, his first published work of fiction, is a collection of short stories written over a fifteen-year period. The stories describe many aspects of the human experience. Magda describes how a Budapest prostitute's life is changed by kindness and compassion shown by a stranger; a chance encounter on the train reveals one man's horrific experiences in Dachau concentration camp.
