Hard to Handle: The Life and Death of the Black Crowes--A Memoir
    • For over two decades, The Black Crowes dominated the charts and radio, even as hair bands, grunge, and hip-hop emerged. With hits like "Hard to Handle," "She Talks to Angels," and "Remedy," they achieved massive success in the early '90s, earning a place among rock royalty. They graced the cover of Rolling Stone, and MTV showcased their videos, while Generation X embraced classic rock and blues through albums like Shake Your Money Maker and The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion. However, stardom can be fleeting. As the band members became entangled in the rock star lifestyle, their musical ambition faded. Despite struggles with substance abuse and conflicts between brothers Chris and Rich Robinson, the band continued touring until 2013. Their performances could be either extraordinary or tumultuous. Ultimately, a significant rift caused by Chris Robinson proved insurmountable. Founding member Steve Gorman witnessed it all—the wild tours, chaotic recording sessions, and legendary backstage encounters. As the drummer and voice of reason, he attempted to keep the band together both musically and emotionally. In his first-person account, Gorman shares the highs and lows of this iconic band with insight, candor, and humor, capturing the essence of a group that was crazy, brilliant, and ultimately not built to last. What a ride it was!
