Irving Berlin

    May 11, 1888 – September 22, 1989

Irving Berlin was a Russian-born naturalized American composer and lyricist, and one of the most prolific American songwriters in history. He was one of the few Tin Pan Alley and Broadway songwriters who penned both lyrics and music for his songs. Despite never learning to read music beyond a rudimentary level, he composed over 3,000 songs that left an indelible mark on American music and culture. He also composed scores for seventeen films and twenty-one Broadway productions.
