Focusing on the role of hope in international politics, this book examines its significance in the rise of the West, particularly through the lens of statebuilding in Kosovo. It analyzes how hope influenced both the international administrators and local residents, highlighting two detrimental forms of hope—"wilful" and "wishful"—that have hindered Kosovo's development since 1999. By integrating insights from medical studies and political philosophy, it offers a unique perspective on the complexities of governance and societal progress in post-conflict settings.
