Donald Evans

This author is known for a strong sense of irony and a bohemian lifestyle that deeply influenced his literary output. His writing, drawing from the aestheticism of the 1890s, offers a unique perspective on American life and culture. He founded Claire Marie press to publish works for "civilized people" with "exotic tastes," explicitly rejecting commercial aims. An early admirer of Gertrude Stein, he was also close to Wallace Stevens, with whom he is said to have planned a book of one-line poems.
