Aubrey Beardsley Alfred Bruce Wilde

Aubrey Beardsley was an English artist whose distinctive black ink drawings, influenced by Japanese woodcuts, emphasized the grotesque, decadent, and erotic. A leading figure of the Aesthetic movement, his contributions to the development of Art Nouveau and the poster movement were significant. Despite his brief career and early death, his work left a profound artistic legacy.

    Salome
    • Salome is Oscar Wilde's most experimental - and controversial - play. None, however, could deny the importance of Wilde's creation. This edition uses the English translation by Wilde's lover, Lord Alfred Douglas. Appendices detail the play's sources and provide extensive materials on its contemporary reception and dramatic productions.
