Roger Bacon

Roger Bacon was an English philosopher and Franciscan friar who placed considerable emphasis on the study of nature through empirical methods. He has been credited as an early European advocate for the modern scientific method, drawing inspiration from ancient works. However, his scholarship fundamentally reflects medieval thought, with much of his "experimental" knowledge derived from books. The reception of Bacon's work throughout history often mirrored the concerns and controversies of his eras.
