Wilhelm Hauff

    November 29, 1802 – November 18, 1827

Wilhelm Hauff was a German poet and novelist celebrated for his fairy tales. He possessed a narrative and inventive gift, combining external themes with his own unique voice and a pleasant, often spirited, wit. His work demonstrates a strong influence of E.T.A. Hoffmann in its fantastical elements, while his historical novels offered early imitations of Sir Walter Scott's style. Hauff's fairy tales, published in an almanac, achieved lasting popularity, cementing his reputation as a gifted storyteller.
