Tirso de Molina

    March 24, 1583 – February 20, 1649

Tirso de Molina, a devoted disciple of Lope de Vega, was a prominent playwright of Spain's Golden Age. His prolific work, encompassing both comedies and religious themes, is noted for its sharp wit and insightful satire of human nature and societal flaws. Despite facing censure from religious authorities for his secular plays, his creative drive remained undeterred. His experiences abroad, particularly in Santo Domingo, provided him with a wealth of historical narratives that he skillfully wove into his dramas, solidifying his significant legacy in Spanish theater.
