Olaus Murie, often called the "father of modern elk management", was a naturalist, author, and wildlife biologist. He conducted groundbreaking field research on a variety of large northern mammals. Murie was also instrumental in enlarging the boundaries of Olympic National Park and establishing the Jackson Hole National Monument and the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. His work with organizations like The Wilderness Society significantly contributed to conservation efforts.
