Billie Holiday

    Billie Holiday was an American jazz singer and songwriter whose influence on jazz and popular singing is immense. Her vocal style, strongly inspired by instrumentalists, brought a pioneering approach to manipulating phrasing and tempo. Holiday popularized a more personal and intimate way of singing, which forever changed the art of American pop vocals. Several songs she co-wrote became jazz standards and are still celebrated for their depth and emotional power.
