Maud Mannoni was a French psychoanalyst of Dutch origin, renowned for her specialization in criminology and as the founder of the Experimental School of Bonneuil. Her work represents a significant contribution to French psychology and psychoanalysis. Mannoni masterfully bridged the theoretical traditions of Winnicott and Lacan, creating an original body of work focused on the influence of parental discourse on a child's symptoms. Her clinical studies initially focused on 'underprivileged' children, where she revealed how the collective discourse surrounding a child determines their position and value. In her later work, she delved into severe childhood pathologies such as autism and childhood psychosis to uncover hidden parental discourse, helping the child reclaim their status as a subject of their own narrative. Her Experimental School of Bonneuil, founded in the late 1960s, was conceived as a 'place of welcome' to help children 'take the risk of living'.
