Auguste Comte

    January 19, 1798 – September 5, 1857

Auguste Comte was a philosopher and the founder of sociology, who developed the doctrine of positivism. He sought to address the social ills of his era by proposing a new social doctrine grounded in science. His ideas profoundly influenced 19th-century thought, laying the groundwork for modern social theory. Comte also coined the term altruism and conceptualized a "Religion of Humanity."
