Apollonius Books
Apollonius of Rhodes is celebrated for his epic poem, the Argonautica, which chronicles the myth of Jason and the Argonauts' quest for the Golden Fleece. This work stands as a rare surviving example of the epic genre, noted for its innovation and lasting influence. Serving as a scholar and librarian in Alexandria, his other poems, known only through fragments, explored the foundational myths of various cities. Once dismissed as a mere imitator of Homer, Apollonius's poetry is now recognized for its unique Hellenistic qualities and scholarly depth.
