A full inventory of the artist's possessions is published for the first time. Decade by decade over his long life, Turner's output is related to the details of his existence - thematically in the author's narratives, and in summary form in new, comprehensive chronologies. The illustrations draw on Turner's own works, among them new discoveries and others rarely if ever reproduced.
