Vortex temporum

More about the book

What would it mean for choreography to function as an exhibition? This question underpins a new project by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, who reimagines her stage piece Vortex Temporum, set to music by Gérard Grisey, for the unique context of an art space. Rather than merely relocating a dance performance, De Keersmaeker transforms her choreography into a nine-week exhibition, altering the materials and conditions integral to dance. This innovative approach highlights the complex conceptual, technical, and physical labor that forms the foundation of her work. The multi-volume boxed catalogue is designed to accompany the exhibition, documenting its evolution. The first set of volumes introduces the project and its ties to Vortex Temporum, while the second set reflects on the exhibition's progression. Included are a re-edition of De Keersmaeker's original program book, photographic documentation by Babette Mangolte and Anne Van Aerschot, drawings by De Keersmaeker, and essays by notable writers such as Douglas Crimp and Brian Dillon. The exhibition was held at Wiels in Brussels, Centre Pompidou in Paris, and Tate in London.
