More about the book

Four adventurers - George, Harris, the writer himself and the dog Montmorency - all members in a boating expedition on the Thames. The difficulties and fluctuations heaped upon these innocents develop to epic proportions as they encounter the hazards of the great English waterway. Their problems are in no way lessened by the outrageous behaviour of Montmorency, who lays waste several riverside communities in the course of their journey. The trip is a typical boating holiday of the time in a Thames camping skiff. This was just after commercial boat traffic on the Upper Thames had died out, replaced by the 1880s craze for boating as a leisure activity.Three Men in a Boat, published in 1889 by Jerome K Jerome became an instant success and has never been out of print.
