The People of the Mist

Set against the backdrop of Africa, the narrative follows Leonard Outram, an English explorer seeking fortune and romance. Alongside his Zulu companion Otter, he rescues Juanna Rodd and her nursemaid from slavery, sparking a complicated romance complicated by Soa's jealousy.
