At thirteen, Mary, a poor seamstress's daughter, dreams of fine clothes while her neighbors suffer. Drawn into the perilous streets of late 1700s London by a red ribbon, she is taken in by the flamboyant Doll. However, Mary learns that her desires come at a heavy price, tied to her social class.
