A Princess of Mars

Set on the red planet, this science fantasy novel follows John Carter, a Civil War veteran from Virginia, who is transported to Mars. Captured by the Tharks, a race of green-skinned giants, he quickly rises to prominence due to his superior strength. The plot thickens when Dejah Thoris, a beautiful princess, is taken prisoner by the Thark leader, Tal Hajus. Carter must summon all his strength and cleverness to rescue her from a fate worse than death, navigating the dangers of rival tribes and the harsh Martian landscape.
