The story originated during a rowing trip on the Thames in 1862, where Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, known as Lewis Carroll, was inspired to entertain Alice Liddell and her sisters with a whimsical tale. This edition aims to clarify inconsistencies in Carroll's original text while preserving his unique style. Accompanying the narrative are playful illustrations by Mathew Staunton, influenced by his own memories of reading the story and inspired by his daughter, Aoife, who served as a model for the characters.
