The story follows Dr. Peter Blood, an Irish physician who, despite his desire to remain uninvolved, finds himself tending to wounded soldiers during a rebellion in Bridgewater. His medical efforts lead to a treason conviction and a death sentence. However, King James II opts to sell him and other criminals into slavery instead. This twist of fate allows Blood and his fellow captives to escape, commandeer a Spanish ship, and embark on a notorious career as feared pirates, challenging Spanish dominance on the seas.
