Sweetness in the Skin

Set in Kingston, Jamaica, the story follows fourteen-year-old Pumkin Patterson, who navigates a challenging family life with her caring grandmother and Aunt Sophie, while dealing with an indifferent mother and a scheming estranged father. Pumkin finds solace in baking, creating sweet potato pudding and apple turnovers, which provide her an escape from the turmoil at home. Her culinary passion becomes a refuge as she seeks comfort and stability amidst her chaotic surroundings.
