More about the book
Jack Patterson returns to Little Rock at the request of his childhood friend Sam Pagano, but upon arrival, he is abducted and brutally attacked by men seeking revenge. His friend and bodyguard, Clovis Jones, rescues him just in time, bringing him to a hospital. As Jack recovers, he discovers that Sam's former girlfriend, Jana Hall, is now a doctor running health clinics for the underprivileged, including one in Little Rock’s East End. However, her work has angered powerful figures who want to shut down her clinics and see her imprisoned. Complicating matters, Jack becomes the prime suspect in the murders of the men who attempted to lynch him. Without his trusted assistant Maggie or co-counsel Micki Lawrence, Jack must navigate a corrupt legal system, facing an unethical special prosecutor and a compromised judge. Despite his efforts, every lead he uncovers is thwarted by new challenges, including a second killer with a vendetta. As his courtroom strategies falter and Jana considers pleading guilty to protect her patients, Jack devises a risky plan that could either save her or lead to dire consequences for them both, including disbarment or even death.
