Struggling with her inherited role as a psychic dream consultant, Prudence Ryland flees to Los Angeles after a near-fatal encounter with a client. Seeking a fresh start as a librarian in a paranormal department, she faces another life-threatening situation and turns to Luther Pell, a nightclub owner, for assistance. He introduces her to Jack Wingate, an author interested in her experiences. Together, they devise a strategy to confront her pursuer, intertwining her psychic abilities with crime scene investigation.
