More about the book

In the year 20__, Penfield R. Henderson finds himself stuck in a rut, walking dogs for cash and responding to calls from a B-list celebrity hookup. He spends his time obsessing over Aiden Chase, a fellow trans man and influencer, whose smooth transition into masculinity fills Pen with resentment. Following an encounter with Aiden, Pen, along with his roommates—the Witch and the Stoner-Hacker—decides to hex Aiden. They access his social media and post a picture of Pen's aloe plant, Alice, tied to a curse that sends anyone who sees it to the Shadowlands. However, the curse mistakenly targets another trans man, Blithe, leading to an intervention by the Rhiz, a quasi-benevolent agency overseeing trans matters. Pen and Aiden are forced to team up to rescue Blithe from the emotional landscape of the Shadowlands. Their journey takes them to a rundown motel in California, where they bring Blithe back to New York, attempting to communicate and share their limited trans wisdom. As they navigate a world filled with judgment and quirky elements, Pen begins to understand that true family extends beyond biological ties.
