More about the book
This book is about the roots of medicine, medical research & education in the Sudan. It traces the origin of medical practices to the formative years of the era of the Fung Kingdom of Sennar (1504-1821), and follows its evolution through the years of the Turco-egyptian rule (1821-1881); when modern medicine in its heyday was introduced to the Sudan. The reign of the Mahdi and his successor; Khalifa Abdullahi el-Taeishi witnessed a setback in this development, followed by a new journey when the troops (many of them were Sudanese), led by Lord Herbert Kitchener in his Nile Campaign paved the way for the establishment of the Anglo-Egyptian Sudan (1898-1956).
